Letter: Health care is humane

I read the letter from Dick Kuiper (Our Readers’ Views, March 2) regarding health care not being a right and had to comment to make sure Dick understands his point of view.

First of all, perhaps Dick has never read the story or seen a movie based on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Secondly, I’m sure he’ll understand if I fail to stop and help him fix his next flat tire, do not choose to share my life preserver if he ever unexpectedly finds himself drowning, or if I fail to use my CPR skills for him that I used my time and effort to acquire. On second thought, I probably would. Because he may not have a constitutional right to those services, in my mind it’s just the humane and right thing to do.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
