A Lyle man was arrested Monday night after he allegedly hugged a child at an area hospital and refused to let go, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, identified by deputies as 37-year-old Clayton G. Closser, had been treated and released from the emergency room at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center and was near the front doors waiting for a ride at about 8:15 p.m., hospital spokeswoman Kelly Love said.

A woman and her 8-year-old grandson walked in, and the man clasped his arms around the child as in a hug, Love said. He wouldn’t let go until a woman and nearby nurse yelled at him to stop, at which point he released the child, she said. The boy was not injured.

Security officers arrived a minute later, Love said, and isolated Closser from everyone else in the hospital until deputies arrived, Love said. He was not combative, she said.

Closser was arrested on suspicion of unlawful imprisonment. He is expected to appear in Clark County Superior Court today.

“We are not aware of his intentions,” Love said. “We are relieved that the right people were there at the right time and it was resolved quickly.”

Sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Neiman said deputies will investigate whether the suspect has mental health issues.
