GRANTS PASS, Ore. – An Oregon man convicted of murder in the shooting death of a man he once considered a father figure has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Daily Courier reports that Stranger Davis, 30, will be eligible for parole after 25 years.

The Cave Junction resident said he was suffering from mental problems when he walked up to Michael “Dirty” MacDonald in August 2014 and fired four rounds into his upper torso.

Josephine County Judge Lindi Baker rejected the insanity defense in a nonjury trial that ended last week. Baker handed down the sentence Thursday.
