Vancouver – Portia Masterson of Lyle has been appointed a trustee of Fort Vancouver Regional Library District by the commissioners of Klickitat, Clark and Skamania counties.

Masterson is the author of “Bicycling Bliss: Riding to Improve Your Wellness,” written from 24 years of experience owning a bicycle and bike accessory store in Golden, Colo.

After retiring, she moved to Washington, where she has lived for 10 years, homesteading on 12 acres.

In promoting her book, Masterson visited hundreds of libraries across the western United States, which gave her “a broader understanding of the importance of libraries in democracy as well as the role of libraries in the digital age,” she said in a news release.

When she first visited the White Salmon Community Library, it “felt like home,” Masterson said.

The board’s seven trustees are appointed by a joint resolution of the commissioners of the three counties, generally for seven-year terms. Board members are not compensated for their time.

Klickitat County’s previous trustee, Kate Maple, moved out of the county. Masterson will serve the remainder of Maple’s term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2021.
