Walnut Grove — Furry Friends received a $1,000 grant from the Petfinder Foundation.

The emergency medical grant program is used to assist Petfinder members who are caring for a pet that needs special life-saving veterinary care in order to become adoptable.

Furry Friends received the grant to help out Maggie, a 1-year-old cat at the shelter, who underwent three unsuccessful rounds of antibiotics to help breathing problems due to neglect and severe respiratory symptoms. She was taken to a specialist, who surgically removed a one-inch nasal polyp from her tiny nose, helping Maggie breath easily. She was adopted out soon after.

The grant can also be used for services such as dental work or other emergency surgery.

The Petfinder Foundation assists more than 12,000 animal shelters and rescue groups across the country that post adoptable pets on www.Petfinder.com. Furry Friends’ pets up for adoption can be found on Petfinder at www.petfinder.com/shelters/WA12.html.
