Weather Eye: Rain, ‘March mudness’ not letting up yet

Vancouver’s rainfall total for month heads for 6 inches

No letup in the rain, it seems, with more than 5 inches in the rain bucket this month for Vancouver. With more steady rain today and continuing showers after that, 6 inches will strike the books for sure.

Temperatures have trended downward, and we are running just below average for the month. More of the same through the weekend.

We had a nice squall line of thunderstorms move through the other evening. Lots of fireworks in the sky and some good downpours, too. Add a little hail to the mix. “March mudness” continues.

I guess spring just had to hang onto the ropes of winter — but we do get thunder in spring especially, after a strong cold front, so expect more to come through April.

Meanwhile, over here on the Big Island of Hawaii, the weather is uneventful. Warm and mostly sunny each day. Not much rain falls here on the Kona side of the island.

The days start off clear and sunny, with us waking up to temperatures in the low 70s. By lunchtime, it is 80 degrees or so. Then the “vog” rolls in from the volcano mountain — a combination of haze, fog and low clouds that likes to move toward the ocean. Reminds me of our summer haze and early-morning fog and low clouds in June.

I have dried out from our deluge of winter rains, and my white skin is showing some healthy color. My dermatologist will be happy to know I am wearing a hat here.

It would be easy to be a weatherman here: quite predictable, same weather each day except the rainy season in July and August.

We’ll chat again on Sunday as I’ll do my best to keep the local rain showers at bay for you. Mahalo.
