Letter: A choice we shouldn’t have to make

Recently the Washington Supreme Court ruled that it is the responsibility of the state to provide adequate funding for education at the K-12 level statewide, thereby reducing the burden on local jurisdictions.

Now our national representatives have decided that they must overhaul or replace the Affordable Care Act. They plan to accomplish this by reducing the amount of money provided at the federal level, and shift responsibility to each of the states. In Washington state the question may soon be “health care or education?”

This, along with major cuts in most federal programs and a massive increase in the war effort, will soon have us in a stiff competition with North Korea for largest percent of GDP dedicated to defense spending.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
