Letter: Let Congress set the standard

As U.S. citizens, many of us are proud to say we are a blessed and exceptional nation and a “bright and shining city on the hill.” The explanation for this tends to go in the direction that our country was founded by men (white and wealthy) who believed in Biblical and Christian principles. That’s why they were able to proudly and honestly state that we “are all created equal.”

We Christians have learned that we’re to take care of children, the poor, the imprisoned, and those from other lands. We’ve learned that God sees all of His Children as equal — none are “more equal than others.”

Consequently, a simple solution to the health care issue for everyone living in the U.S. might look like this: Our legislative, executive, and judicial leaders at the federal level should create the health care plan that they and their families will be using for the rest of their lives.

I am certain that these fine Christian folks will provide nothing but the best for themselves and their loved ones. Once they’ve determined and passed this wonderful, comprehensive plan, it will become the health care plan for everyone in this country. After all, why should any woman, child, or man living in this country not enjoy the best health care plan available to the most powerful people in our country?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
