Eighth-grader’s essay reaches national competition

Hudson’s Bay — Local eighth-grader Ryan Welch is going national.

Welch won local, state and regional contests for his entry to the 2017 American History Essay Contest, sponsored by Daughters of the American Revolution. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the National Park System, entries had to be inspired by a park, and Welch wrote his about a visit to Glacier National Park.

His essay will be entered in the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, where it will compete with regional winners from throughout the country.

Welch is home-schooled and a member of the Vancouver Home Connection.
