A celebration of life for Clark County District Court Judge Vernon L. Schreiber will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, Hall B, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield.

Schreiber, who served about 30 years on the bench, died April 25 after a brief illness. He was 74.

He was hired in January 1987 as a Clark County District Court magistrate — now known as court commissioner — and was elected to District Court in 1998. He presided over the domestic violence, drug and substance abuse, and mental health courts. Before taking the bench, he worked in private practice as a family law attorney, according to the county.

Schreiber was a graduate of the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Vichas; daughters, Kristin Schreiber Johnston and Kerrie Schreiber Warner; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
