In the final Vancouver USA Singers concert of the season, “All You Need Is Love,” the choir will highlight popular pieces that celebrate love, from Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Stephen Sondheim, John Lennon, and Eric Whitacre. The choir will also feature jazz vocalist Darcy Schmitt, the Seton High School Choir and Brooke Moltrum, the winner of the Vancouver USA Singers annual scholarship. Don’t miss out on getting your tickets for this year’s Dozer Day, which will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 20 and 21. Participants can drive dozers, excavators and dump trucks with a professional operator, with proceeds benefiting children’s charities. The Woodland Moose Lodge will be hosting a Woodland Kids’ Fishing Derby for ages 3 to 14, with prizes awarded for biggest catch. See the classic silent melodrama “City Girl” screened with local composer John Paul’s original score, performed by four members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Shot in Oregon in 1929, “City Girl” tells the story of Kate, a hard-working waitress from Chicago who falls in love with a Minnesota farmer and decides to try life in the country. Vancouver’s Memorial Day Observance Ceremony will take place at the parade ground bandstand at 11 a.m. May 27, hosted by the Community Military Appreciation Committee. There will also be the Soldiers’ Bivouac living history encampment from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The living history camps will tell the story of the military from the Civil War to World War II through tools, weapons and dress at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, 1001 E.
