La Center — The La Center Education Foundation received a $20,000 Clark W. Murphy donation on May 4 from the The Organization Dedicated to Athletics & Youth (TODAY) Foundation, which supports youth athletics in Southwest Washington.

The money will be used to complete the La Center Field House, part of the Athletic Facilities Improvement Program, at La Center High School.

“Mr. Murphy left this special donation with the intention that it would be used to support a youth project,” Gordy Myers, representative of the organization, said in a release from the district. “This is the type of youth project Mr. Murphy would have wanted to support.” Murphy was a U.S. Navy veteran and longtime friend of Carol Meyers, whose five grandchildren attended La Center, according to the release. The two would regularly watch the school sporting events of Meyers’ grandkids.
