Letter: Divisions make us stronger

In the May 19 Associated Press story, “Trump claims ‘witch hunt’,” President Trump says that the appointment of the special counsel “hurts our country terribly” and “shows we’re a divided, mixed-up, not unified country.”

The fact that we are a two-party system already shows that we are a divided country. I do not see how our government investigating him hurts and divides our country. If he means we are divided by those who think he is innocent and those who do not, there was already a similar divide during the election itself. As long as there are Republican and Democratic parties, our country will always be slightly divided.

Despite this, for certain serious issues, the parties are able to work together. For example, the investigation of the firing of FBI Director James Comey. Considering people from both parties had questions regarding the firing, I think that a special counsel is a good idea.

Both Republicans and Democrats approve of the appointment, meaning both parties believe this is for the good of the country. At this point I would be more inclined to follow them than the person under investigation.
