Letter: Less cynicism, more knowledge

We are a cynical nation. Our politics and our faith (or lack thereof) divide us; there’s deep mistrust between neighbors and even family members. While technology, on one hand, brings us together, it also liberates us socially, thus advancing and complicating our collective issues.

We are an over-informed nation. We have more choices for news and information available to us now than at any time in our country’s history. But even as an educated people, we are not an equally thinking people; too frequently preferring others to separate fact from fiction; leaving us prey to those who would deliberately confuse, deceive or influence us.

We are an unknowing nation. Unless we, as a people, desire to seek and know the truth about our great nation, its history and founding documents, we will never have an understanding of who we are as Americans, how we should conduct ourselves, or where we should be led. Our politics have strayed far outside the intentional guiding principles of the Constitution and the wisdom behind it, as set forth by our forefathers.

Cynical, over-informed and unknowing, we needn’t be. Let’s work together. Yes, we can!

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
