Police have cited a 26-year-old woman for allegedly setting off fireworks, sparking a fire that destroyed a Camas house Sunday evening.

Police and fire officials teamed up for the investigation after firefighters rushed to the single-story house, 704 S.E. Tampa St., about 8 p.m. Sunday to find a blaze ripping through the residence.

Crews attacked the flames and brought the fire under control, but fire investigators later determined that the house was a total loss.

The blaze melted some siding on two nearby houses and charred another neighbor’s garage.

Investigators received information that Angelica Perez, who lives at the affected house, had been lighting off fireworks near the house and that’s what started the blaze, Camas Police Department spokesman Sgt. Scot Boyles said.

Perez was cited Monday with reckless endangerment, a gross misdemeanor.
