Letter: Christiansen for school board

By Grant Bennett, Vancouver
Published: November 1, 2017, 6:00am

Heather Christiansen is the right candidate for the Vancouver Public Schools board.

Her opponent, Wendy Smith, is a full-time, contracted teacher in Evergreen Public Schools with an inflexible schedule. Board members have multiple activities during the year, including daylong goal-setting retreats, board sub-committee meetings, school visitations, and state and national conferences. Limited participation in these activities will compromise Smith’s effectiveness.

Vancouver already has a recently retired, nationally certified Evergreen teacher on the school board. Vancouver deserves someone with a different skill set that Heather Christiansen can bring, with her background as a senior executive at a public company.
