The Tillamook County Sheriff’s office is warning swimmers, surfers, fisherman and anyone visiting the Oregon Coast that several large sharks have been spotted near Cape Kiwanda in the last week.

According to a Facebook post from the agency, the sightings started on a week ago, on Nov. 2, and continued on Nov. 3, 4, 5 and 6.

“Please use caution in and around the coastal waters,” the post concluded.

In July, after a shark warning was issued for Seaside and Cannon Beach, Chris Havel, spokesperson for Oregon State Parks, told The Oregonian/OregonLive, “There’s 13 different species of shark that live off the north Oregon Coast.”

He said great white is one of those species.

There have been 29 recorded shark attacks off the Oregon Coast since 1974. Only one was fatal.

The one fatal attack happened at sea in 1975, when the fishing boat of a couple from California capsized due to possibly a freak wave.

The woman, Grace Conger, was killed by blue shark bites.

Her husband, Oliver Conger, drowned.
