A gallery of photos and accompanying stories of Southwest Washington veterans is now on the website of U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground.

The images and personal accounts are at https://herrerabeutler.house.gov through November.

The former service members participated in the Veterans History Project organized by the Library of Congress. Herrera Beutler held oral history sessions in October in Clark and Lewis counties.

“I’ve been humbled to hear the firsthand accounts of military combat from the men and women who served in World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, and on the front lines around the globe,” Herrera Beutler said in a news release.

She said that it is “important that the rest of us understand the threats they faced, sacrifices they made, and challenges they endured to protect our nation.”

The veterans’ recorded interviews are in the process of being submitted for preservation at the Library of Congress.
