Letter: Herrera Beutler tax vote is a failure

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s “Yes” vote on the GOP/Trump tax “cut” bill is unacceptable.

Her constituents understand this bill is a giveaway to corporations and the top 1 percent: the Trump family will save about $1 billion while trillions are added to the national debt, which ordinary taxpayers will be paying off for generations to come.

This tax cut is not needed to boost the economy: the stock market is at record levels and corporations have so much cash on hand that they are not hiring more workers, increasing inventories or improving employee pay, but instead buying back stock to increase their share price, thus justifying bigger year-end bonuses for executives and board members.

None of this helps the ordinary taxpayer, raising the question: Why support a bill that hurts so many of us, and helps only big GOP donors? The question answers itself.
