Letter: Affordable Care Act not affordable

By
Published:

I’m a healthy adult only visiting a doctor every three to five years, finding a difficult time digesting costs.

In 2012, premiums were $130 per month, rising each year. The Affordable Care Act for 2018 (Bronze) quotes $326 to $405 per month, a 150 percent increase since 2012. Unsustainable and unreasonable on so many levels. One challenge: commercialization of health care bringing in third-party agency. Insurance agencies are recording record profits, and everywhere you look, a commercial on prescription drugs adds to the insult. Ask your doctor about natural remedies, you get blank stares.

I tried obamacareplans.com, healthcare.com, third party call centers, sending me to other call centers that cannot offer a quotation without a special appointment. Some suggest being local to Clark County is a benefit, but three phone calls later, no equitable pricing. In every online portal or phone call the second question is how much income I make. I’m a human being; my production in life should not affect the cost of service.

I’m forced to accept increased costs for Bronze insurance. Will it go up another 20 percent?
