A Vancouver man died earlier this month following injuries suffered when he was struck by a car while crossing Main Street.

Mario Sosa, 68, apparently attempted to cross mid-block when a driver heading south on Main Street hit him near East 37th Street the evening of Nov. 3, according to Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

Sosa was placed on life support, then died Nov. 16, according to family friends.

Kapp said the driver, a 76-year-old man, stopped and remained at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, she said, and no citations had been issued.

Sosa was the sole caretaker of his disabled wife, according to family members, and he did not have life insurance. A online memorial fund to help his wife has been set up at GoFundMe.com under “Mario Sosa Memorial Fund” or www.gofundme.com/4q4t6lc.
