Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire on a deck in the Walnut Grove area Thursday afternoon, preventing the flames from spreading to the attached home.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 5300 block of Northeast 68th Street around 1:20 p.m., after a neighbor called 911 to report seeing flames on a deck, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Spatz said.

Firefighters strung hose behind the house and made short work of the roughly 4-by-4-foot fire on the deck, but not before it blew out some windows on the partially enclosed structure.

The fire did not spread to the house, Spatz said, and firefighters were on the scene for about 20 minutes.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating.
