Fire District 3 names next chief

Assistant will succeed Wrightson after his retirement in November

Scott Sorenson will take over as the new chief of Clark County Fire District 3, after current Chief Steve Wrightson retires in November, according to the district.

The district board of commissioners chose Sorenson, who is currently an assistant chief at the district, from multiple regional applicants for the job.

Sorenson began his fire career in 1979 as a volunteer with District 3. He started full time in 1982, and worked as a career firefighter/EMT, lieutenant, captain, division chief, deputy chief then assistant chief. He worked as an EMT with North Country EMS, a firefighter at Clark County Fire District 10, and as a wildland firefighter with the state Department of Natural Resources.

Sorenson holds a master’s degree in management and organizational leadership and bachelor’s degree in Science in Business Administration, both from Warner Pacific College. He earned his associate’s degree in fire protection technology from Portland Community College, according to the district.

He is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. Sorenson is a 1980 graduate of Battle Ground High School.

He’s also a member the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Washington State Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Clark County Fire Chiefs Association Operations Division.

Sorenson has taught as an adjunct instructor at Portland Community College and worked as operations section chief on Washington incident management teams.

Sorenson is married and has three children. They live in Venersborg.
