Letter: Trump unfairly criticized

By Jerry Rogers, VANCOUVER

It’s disappointing and somewhat disturbing to read so many letters criticizing President Donald Trump as a warmonger over his ideology of North Korea.

The blame should start with President Truman, who should have finished what he started. After being the primary force to destroy two powerful nations, we had the means to defeat a much smaller and weaker nation. Truman chose to sign the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953, with the hope of achieving a final peaceful settlement in the future.

Every president since this agreement was signed has failed to achieve a peaceful settlement. In addition to failed diplomacy, North Korea, against our objections, has developed an atomic bomb and missiles to carry the bomb, making us more vulnerable than in 1953.

These ex-presidents have continued to kick the can down the road, passing their responsibilities on to future presidents.

Now we finally have a president who doesn’t sugarcoat problems and has a track record of making successful tough decisions, and is taking this problem head-on. This straightforwardness is what Trump promised and why he was elected.

What do these critics want? To wait until the North Koreans succeed with their promise to destroy the United States?
