Letter: Maybe they’re showing respect

I’d like to add to the hysteria and confusion about the NFL players kneeling when the national anthem is played.

Kneeling, if one looks the word up in a dictionary and thesaurus, relates to a sign of obeisance, to bow down, to kowtow, so I take it that these players are paying an even deeper respect for the flag than if they stood.
