Portland — Three girls have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a series of strong-arm carjackings, according to Portland police.

They were arrested after crashing a stolen SUV during a police chase that began late Tuesday, police said in a news release. Detectives learned the trio was “involved” in the carjackings — and at least one cellphone robbery — since the middle of September.

An officer saw a stolen 2016 Honda CR-V around 11:15 p.m. in the 10000 block of Southeast Stark Street and tried to stop its driver, police said. The driver didn’t comply, police said, and the officer chased the car and tried to stop it using “several pursuit intervention techniques.”

The driver eventually crashed near an onramp to Interstate 205 north and Interstate 84 west, police said. The girls weren’t injured.

They were booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home on suspicion of crimes including second-degree robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, police said.

Police said “it is believed there were no weapons displayed or used during the robberies.” The suspects used force, according to victim and witness statements to police.

The three arrested are Aaliyah Mitchell, 15, Kimala S. Anderson, 14, and Misheyla Washington, 14. The Oregonian/OregonLive typically names juvenile suspects in Measure 11 crimes, which includes second-degree robbery.

Police described the alleged robberies in the news release:

On Sept. 18, Central Precinct officers responded to the area near Southwest Fourth Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street on the report of a robbery in which an adult female sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her cellphone.

On Sept. 24, North Precinct officers responded to the area near North Killinsgworth Street and North Commercial Avenue on the report of a robbery in which an adult female sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her car keys.

On Sept. 28, East Precinct officers responded to the 4200 block of Southeast 82nd Avenue on the report that an adult female sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her 2012 gray Ford Focus. The stolen vehicle was later located by officers on Oct. 2. The vehicle was found in the 4800 block of Northeast Flanders Street and had heavy front-end damage from a crash that occurred after being stolen.

On Sept. 29, East Precinct officers responded to the 1200 block of Northeast 102nd Avenue on the report of an adult female who sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her 2016 white Honda CRV. The driver of the Honda CRV crashed while attempting to elude officers on Oct. 3.

On Oct. 2, East Precinct officers responded to the 4000 block of Southeast 82nd Avenue on the report of an adult female who sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her vehicle. On Oct. 3, the vehicle was recovered by officers. There were no occupants in the vehicle when it was located.

Police said detectives, who continue to investigate, think there will probably be more arrests and charges.
