Julian Garcia scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime, lifting Columbia River to a 19-13 win over Woodland.

With 18 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Jarrett Seelbinder ran seven yards for the team’s first offensive score of the game, forcing overtime.

When penalties pushed the Beavers outside the 31-yard line in overtime, the Chieftains defense forced the fourth interception of the evening against Wyatt Harsh. Julian Garcia ran each of the five plays Columbia River ran in overtime to seal the victory.

Kanen Eaton intercepted an errant Harsh pass and returned it four yards for the touchdown to give Columbia River a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Harsh and Woodland countered, as the quarterback found Christian Yager on two separate scoring drives, giving the Beavers a 13-6 lead going into the final few minutes.

With just over two minutes remaining, Woodland was facing third-and-1 and twice the Columbia River defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs.

Chieftain quarterback Matthew Asplund charged the team down the field going 3 for 3 with 41 total yards. Seelbinder ran 16 yards on the drive as well, finishing the day with 102 yards rushing.

On his game-tying touchdown, Seelbinder saw the play develop before the ball was snapped: “I knew, it was there”

Woodland had no shortage of opportunities. Seven times the team found itself on or inside the 2-yard line of Columbia River. Six false starts and a one-yard gain negated any hopes of scoring. The team also forced five turnovers, including two interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Harsh had 120 rushing yards, completed 31 passes and threw for two scores. The rest of the Woodland offense ran for six total yards.
