Letter: Help environment, stop idling

By Gary Benke, VANCOUVER
Published: October 22, 2017, 6:00am

Letter-writer Stephen Kingsbury (“Idling engines pollute air,” Oct. 18) is correct, but he didn’t mention one of the main sources of the pollution problem in Southwest Washington: the I-5 Bridge.

We still let thousands of vehicles idle each day during the summer and winter, clear back into Portland or north up to Northeast 134th Street in Vancouver, while one boat is passing under the bridge.

Kingsbury is from Beaverton, Ore.; maybe he can write to the legislators in Oregon to help us with a new bridge or, as the situation dictates, maybe someone with some smarts will notice and give the vehicle traffic more right-of-way to help the environment.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
