Emma Jenkins, Daniel Maton and the Camas cross country teams are headed to the state meet in full stride.

Saturday, Jenkins and Maton were individual winners as Camas dominated the District 3-4 Westside Classic at Chambers Creek in University Place.

After covering the 5,000 meter course in 15 minutes, 47 seconds, Maton will be among the favorites to win the Class 4A race at the state championships Nov. 4 in Pasco.

The junior, who finished eighth at last year’s state meet, won Saturday’s 159-man race by 14 seconds over Tahoma’s Dawson Best.

Camas won the boys team title with 56 points, 36 ahead of second-place Tahoma. Jackson Lyne finished 8th in 16:22, David Connell was 11th (16:28), Spencer Twyman was 12th (16:29) and LJ Floyd rounded out the Camas scorers in 28th (16:49).

Heritage junior Ryan Cibart finished 10th in 16:28.

Led by Jenkins, who won by 18 seconds in 18:37, the Camas girls placed three runners in the top five. A senior, Jenkins has finished no worse than seventh in three runnings at the state meet. Next weekend, she’ll lead a Camas team that placed second last year after winning the state title the previous two years.

Sophomore Halle Jenkins, Emma’s younger sister, was fourth in 19:14. Freshman Camryn Mock was fifth, just four seconds behind. Ellie Postma was 15th in 19:48 and Madison Child rounded out the Camas scorers in 15th (19:51).

While Camas won the team title with 42 points, Skyview was second with 127. Ellen Burbank was placed third in 19:12 while teammate Krystal Kaufman was 10th in 19:41.
