Letter: Herrera Beutler is irresponsible

Clark County citizens ought to be embarrassed and chagrined by their lack of mature and responsible representation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Once again, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, has demonstrated her true colors and her lack of understanding of her role. Burying her head in the sand does not equal the responsible representation that the citizens of Clark County and her district expect and deserve.

She was sent to Congress to solve problems, not to grandstand with protest votes, all the while refusing to meet with her constituents, let alone lead by example.

Last week she demonstrated her complete lack of understanding of her role. On Friday, she voted against hurricane relief for the people of Texas and raising the debt ceiling. She would have these people suffer and risk tanking the global economy? How is that helping her constituents? How is that responsible?

In another grandstanding move, she tried to block Oregon from placing tolls on I-5 and I-205 in order to raise funds for much-needed road improvements that, in fact, benefit Clark County commuters.

And, of course, she refuses to meet face-to-face with her constituents in open town halls. This irresponsible behavior must end. She has had her chance to lead and she has failed miserably.
