Letter: Many thanks to VFW

I was recently admitted to the Portland VA hospital on an emergency basis. Needless to say, I did not have any of the essentials one would take to the hospital.

A senior member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars came to my bedside and asked if there was anything I needed. He had a cart stocked with a large variety of things one might need, all at no charge. I had no idea the VFW provides such a wonderful service to veterans. The next time you encounter a VFW member asking for donations, think beyond the poppies and dig a little deeper in your pocket to support the VFW.
