Letter: Port commissioner needs to listen

Port of Vancouver Commissioner Jerry Oliver is tired of hearing the same old arguments for and against the oil terminal every three months when Vancouver Energy’s lease comes up for renewal. He says he wants the process to “run its course.” Renewing the lease is part of the process and hearing the public’s views on it is part of that process, too. But, apparently, Oliver is sick and tired of hearing the people of Vancouver, Clark County and the region recommend that the lease not be renewed.

I would like to suggest that Oliver either resign or vote not to renew the lease at all. Either way, he will no longer be subjected to “the voice of the people.”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
