A senior at Roosevelt High School said Tuesday he found a sticker in a men’s bathroom at the school that read, “The KKK Wants You.” There was no contact information on the sticker.

The student, who asked not to be named, said over the phone that he found the message at around 9:15 a.m. and immediately reported it to school officials.

On Tuesday afternoon, the school sent out a press release, confirming the student’s account, though referring to the sticker as a magnet. Administrators are reviewing video of the bathroom’s entrance, according to the release.

“This hateful image is appalling and offensive, and has no place at Roosevelt High School or at any other Portland Public School,” said Roosevelt High School Principal Filip Hristic in a statement included with the release.

“We are actively investigating how this wound up in a boys’ bathroom at school this morning,” he continued. “We are committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for every one of our students. This is particularly hurtful to our African-American students, for whom this image is a symbol of hatred and violence.”

The student who found the sticker said, “This isn’t like an isolated incident. There is racism at our school.”
