Letter: Tolls make for great theater

By James Patterson, VANCOUVER

Recently, on a trip to the East Coast, my rental car needed to be equipped with an electronic toll collector. They seem awfully fond of user taxes back there. Now I wonder if I would have received a refund, had they known I was from Clark County, Washington.

And the gall of those Oregonians trying to charge their guests from Washington for using their roads.

Doubtless, there is wide support for our congresswoman’s efforts. Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt ran and won on the no-toll platform, despite former mayor Royce Pollard’s efforts to explain that the mayor’s office had nothing to do with the decision. This is great political theater and bound to be good for votes, if nothing else.
