Steven Cox withdraws from Vancouver mayoral race

Vancouver mayoral candidate Steven Cox announced today he has withdrawn from the race.

This move effectively leaves Vancouver City Councilor Anne McEnerny-Ogle as the only candidate for mayor. Cox will, however, remain on the ballot, said Cathie Garber, Clark County elections supervisor. The last day to withdraw was May 22. If Cox wins the seat anyway and chooses not to accept, the council would fill the position in January.

Baby dies in drowning at Brush Prairie home in ‘tragic accident’

Deputies are calling the death of an 11-month-old boy who drowned in a bathtub Saturday a tragic accident.

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office were called to a Brush Prairie residence at about 9 p.m. Saturday for a report of a drowning.

Vancouver woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer wants others to know signs

Teri Giangreco didn’t know the signs of ovarian cancer until she was sitting in her new gynecologic oncologist’s office discussing her stage 3 ovarian cancer diagnosis.

A poster on the wall listed the four warning signs: bloating, feeling of fullness, pelvic pain and frequent need to urinate.

“We can justify them to be anything,” Giangreco said.

Vancouver boy, 17, arrested in voyeurism case

An investigation into a hacked social media account and shared nude photos led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy for suspicion of taking upskirt videos.

Vancouver police began their investigation Sept. 18 when a female student at Union High School reported the incident to the school resource officer, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Lawsuit over Battle Ground bus stop alleges negligence

A lawsuit was filed Tuesday against Battle Ground Public Schools, Clark County Public Works, the school district’s contracted bus company and the motorists who struck two students near a school bus stop on Northeast 82nd Avenue in Battle Ground — costing one child her life and the other his right leg.

Battle Ground’s Justin Carey, 20, and Jill Sasser, the personal representative for Elizabeth Smith, who was 11 years old when she was killed, are listed as the plaintiffs.
