PORT ORCHARD — Authorities say a driver suspected of striking and killing a woman who had stopped to help a stranded motorist in Port Orchard has been arrested.

The Kitsap Sun reports the man was arrested at his place of work Monday and was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for investigation of felony hit and run.

The Washington State Patrol did not release the man’s name.

Katherine Phillips of Belfair was killed at about 5 a.m. March 22 when she stopped on her way home from an overnight shift with Washington State Ferries.

The state patrol says while Phillips and the driver of the disabled vehicle filled the tank, someone in a sedan drove by and hit her.

Winger says Phillips died at the scene and the driver fled.
