Central Park — Three local students represented Clark College at the 23rd annual All-Washington Academic Team ceremony, honoring 78 students from around the state for their academic and community service accomplishments.

The students honored were Carlos Hunt of Vancouver, Diane Hurst of Brush Prairie and Madysen Saucedo of Woodland. The team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. Each student received a medal and $250 scholarship, and is now eligible for additional transfer scholarships from in-state colleges and universities.

Hunt spent years working in construction and wanted to find something less physically taxing while at Clark, where he took an interest in social justice and public administration.

Hurst spent years home-schooling her children and is completing an associate of fine arts degree in graphic design, which will help her financially support herself and her family.

Saucedo started taking classes at Clark when she was 15 through Running Start, and her plan is to transfer to Arizona State University to continue studying mathematics to become an actuary.
