Community notebook: Battle Ground to face Prairie in rugby

Battle Ground Bulls high school rugby team defeated Oregon City 12-10 on Saturday.

Battle Ground is leading the league with a record of 4-0.

The Bulls next play the Prairie Wolf Pack at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Laurin Middle School, 13601 N.E. 97th Ave., at Brush Prairie.

Prairie, third in the varsity division, is coming off a 63-0 win over Union. Riley Frazier was named player of the match for Prairie.

Skyview early leader in high school lacrosse

The Skyview boys lacrosse team is 6-0 through Monday in the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse varsity.

Connor Kiichle has six goals and eight assists for Skyview, which beat Lakeside 8-5 on Friday.

Union (2-1, 2-7) is second in the 4A GSHL, followed by Camas (0-3, 1-6). Skyview hosted Union on Monday night.

In 2A/1A GSHL play, Columbia River is 1-1 (4-4 overall). Columbia River next plays Union at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Camas High School. On Friday, Skyview plays Columbia River at 7:30 p.m. at Ridgefield High School.

Senior Classic tennis tourney coming up

The Senior Classic tennis tournament is April 26-29 at Club Green Meadows. Divisions include men’s and women’s singles and doubles, mixed doubles, and combined ratings divisions. The tournament is open to all USTA members and deadline to register is Sunday.

Entry fee is $35 for first singles, $23 for doubles. Tournament information can be found at tennislink.usta.com/tournaments and enter code 600009418 in the “Find a Tournament” box.

Also coming up at Club Green Meadows is the CGM Advanced boys’ and girls’ singles, May 18-20. It is also open to all USTA members. Cost to enter is $48.88 and deadline to register is May 11. Tournament information can be found at tennislink.usta.com/tournaments and enter code 600006918 in the “Find a Tournament” box.

Upcoming CCRC runs

Remaining April runs from the Clark County Running Club include the Vancouver Lake 3-mile Trail Run on Wednesday, and the Round Lake 3.25-mile run on April 25 in Camas.

Both runs begin at 6:30 p.m.

The first May run is the Tech Center 1.6-mile Loop at 6:30 p.m. May 2. Those participating can park at Columbia Valley Elementary School on S.E. Sequoia Circle.

Blooms to Brews can get you to Boston

There’s still time to register for the Blooms to Brews Marathon event, which will be held the morning of April 29 at Horseshoe Lake Park in Woodland.

The marathon is a USA Track and Field certified qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

Entry fees until April 25 are: $210 for the Boston to Blooms to Brews Challenge or $110 for just the marathon, $80 for the half marathon, $55 for the 10K run, and $210 for the 4-person relay.

Youth wrestler succeeds at nationals

Jon Schoenlein has had a busy and successful spring on the wrestling mat. The Vancouver 5th grader earned all-American honors at two national tournaments.

Schoenlein placed third at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals from March 29-31 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He won five of six matches in the Novice 98-pound division.

The Eisenhower Elementary student then placed third at the Flo Reno Worlds in Nevada from April 5-8. He went 5-1 in the under-10, 100-pound division.
