A couple of neighbors temporarily had to hunker down inside as firefighters and utility crews responded to a gas leak in Salmon Creek on Wednesday afternoon.

Clark County Fire District 6 spokesman David Schmitke said firefighters were called to a new home development at 14003 N.E. Seventh Court around 2:15 p.m. for a reported gas leak.

Responding firefighters learned a subcontractor at the construction site struck a 2- to 3-inch natural gas line.

One resident evacuated, and two others were asked to stay inside and close their  windows, Schmitke said.

NW Natural workers arrived shortly after to shut off the pipe and begin repairs.

No one was hurt.
