A man who drowned Friday in the North Fork Lewis River was identified Saturday as Allums N. Robinson, a 24-year-old from Klamath Falls, Ore. An investigation is ongoing, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, but the drowning appears to be accidental.

Robinson drowned in the river while swimming with a group of family members and friends, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. Clark County Fire & Rescue and sheriff’s deputies responded at around 3:15 p.m. Friday to a 911 call.

Two swimmers had gone into the water at the mouth of Cedar Creek, off Northeast Etna Road, at the remote northeastern edge of Clark County. Robinson struggled and slipped beneath the water. The second swimmer returned safely to shore.

Robinson was located in about 15 feet of water, deceased and presumed drowned. Rescuers were unable to reach him until a dive team came to the scene.

Cold water was likely a contributing factor in the drowning, according to the sheriff’s statement.
