Kids fish-in event set for Lake Sacajawea

A kids fishing clinic will be held at Lake Sacajawea Park in Longview on April 28 from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Youths 5-14 may attend. Register online, or call 360-442-5400.

A section of the lake will be netted off and stocked with trout.

The event is part of a statewide program created to provide more fishing opportunities for youth anglers. Each participant will get a rod and reel to keep. The fee is $10.

Family fishing event April 28 at Trojan Pond

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a family fishing event at Trojan Pond near Rainier, Ore., on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Designed for kids and their families to learn about fishing, ODFW will provide everything anglers need to catch trout. To maximize participants’ chances of catching fish, ODFW will stock the pond with hatchery-reared rainbow trout just prior to the event. Staff and volunteer angler education instructors will be on site during the event to hand out free loaner gear, bait, and instruction – all free of charge while supplies last.

The fishing is free for kids 11 years of age and younger. A youth license is required for anglers 12-17 years of age and can be purchased for $10 online at ODFW’s website, or at any ODFW field office or retail license agent.

Trojan Pond is a 15-acre pond located approximately 4.5 miles southeast of Rainier on the north side of Hwy. 30 at the old Trojan nuclear facility site. The pond is on the right side of the road as soon as you turn onto the Trojan Access Road.

Summer salmon seasons set

Summer Chinook salmon seasons in the Columbia River have been set by the Oregon and Washington. Chinook retention will be limited to June 22 through July 4 from the Astoria-Megler Bridge upstream to Bonneville Dam. From the dam upstream to the Oregon/Washington border, the season is scheduled for June 16 through July 31.

The daily bag limit for both areas is two hatchery salmonids, which may include up to two Chinook.

Due to low projected returns, sockeye retention will be prohibited this year.
