Community notebook: Alberghini, Benner win Blooms to Brews marathon

Jeffrey Alberghini, 37, of Beaverton, Ore., won the Blooms to Brews Marathon on Sunday in Woodland.

His time was 2 hours, 51 minutes, 18.80 seconds.

Bryan Derr, 25, was second in 2:54:28.30, and Chuck Engle, 47, was third in 2:57:06.10.

Brooke Benner, 25, was the top female finisher, placing fifth overall in 3:01:20.85. Caitlin Biddulph, 30, was sixth in 3:05:06.94.

There were 117 total finishers in the marathon.

Dave Caldwell, 43, won the half-marathon with a time of 1:22:14.16. Abby Knight, 23, was the top female finisher, placing fourth overall in 1:28:19.51.

There were 338 finishers in the half-marathon.

Robert Economy, 54, was the top finisher in the 10K race with a time of 36:08.45. Carrie O’Callahan was the top female runner, placing sixth overall in 46:28.29.

There were 311 finishers in the 10K.

CCRC runs in May

Five weeks in May means five Wednesdays of running opportunities with the Clark County Running Club.

Each Wednesday race begins at 6:30 p.m. Events include:

• Tech Center 1.6-mile Loop on Wednesday at S.E. Sequoia Circle.

• Haagan Park 5K on May 9 at Leroy Haagen Park near the Firstenberg Community Center on N.E. 136th Ave.

• Ellen Davis Trail 3 and 4.5-mile Run, May 16 in Leverick Park.

• Pacific Park Run on May 23.

• David Douglas Park run on May 30.

Signups for CCYF continue through June

The signup period for Clark County Youth Football & Cheer includes seven more upcoming dates.

The fall tackle program is for players entering second through eighth grades, fall flag football for kindergarten and first graders, and youth cheer for grades K-8.

There will also be a new fall flex football non-tackle option for grades 2-3.

Signup dates include: May 2 at Hockinson High School (6:30-8 p.m.); May 12 at Mountain View High (noon-2 p.m.); May 16 at Daybreak Middle School (6:30-8 p.m.); May 30 at Washougal High (6:30-8 p.m.); June 6 at Alki Middle School (6:30-8 p.m.); June 9 at Prairie High (noon-2 p.m.); and June 20 at La Center High practice field (4:30-5:30 p.m.).

Vancouver Victory soccer begins Saturday

The Vancouver Victory of the Evergreen Premier League kicks off the 2018 season at 4 p.m. Saturday at Harmony Sports Complex against Yakima.

Other home matches include 3 p.m. June 3 against Spokane; 3 p.m. June 10, against Tri-Cities; 5 p.m. June 17 against Seattle; and 4 p.m. June 24 against Oly Town.

Admission to Victory matches is $6. Kids 12-under are admitted free. A season pass for the Victory and WA Timbers Women’s First team is $50.
