Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies were present at a private Vancouver school Tuesday due to a student making a threat.

Arne Kainu, interim superintendent of King’s Way Christian Schools, sent an email to parents and staff Tuesday afternoon, explaining the law enforcement presence.

Kainu wrote that on Monday night, a parent reported that two King’s Way students “may have heard another student making an intimidating remark about a weapon.” Clark County Sgt. Brent Waddell described it as an “internet threat,” though he said a full report on the incident had not been completed.

The interim superintendent said the school took immediate action by notifying the parents of the alleged threatening child and initiating a law enforcement investigation to figure out if such a comment was ever made.

A student was suspended from the school, pending the results of the investigation.

School administrators called the sheriff’s office Tuesday morning.

The school and deputies are meeting with the student and parents, Waddell said.

“We would like to take this opportunity to remind our parents that if we ever felt it unsafe for your child to be at school, we would notify families via our Flash Alert system. However, we cannot respond to every rumor as it evolves. Our priority must be toward the kids and teachers at our school,” Kainu wrote.
