Bottelberghe, Columbia River break records in 2A swimming prelims

Camas swimmers have solid first day at state

Josh Bottelberghe enjoyed a record-breaking day Friday at the Class 2A state boys swimming championships.

The Columbia River senior will look for more in Saturday’s finals.

In Friday’s preliminaries, Bottelberghe broke his own meet record in the 100 breaststroke, qualifying in a top time of 54.49 seconds.

Bottelberghe was also part of a record-breaking 200 free relay team. He was joined by Simon Parish, Ben Phelps and Rob Mead to break Archbishop Murphy’s 2013 record to qualify No. 1 in 1:28.23.

Bottelberghe also qualified No. 1 in the 200 freestyle (1:40.55). Washougal’s Isaiah Ross qualified third (1:44.95).

Ross also qualified third in the 100 butterfly (51.57). Hockinson’s Joe Dodd qualified eighth (53.57).

Mead took the top seed in the 100 freestyle (47.22), and he was the No. 3 seed in 100 backstroke (51.41).

Columbia River qualified third in the 200 medley replay with Bottelberghe, Mead, Phelps and Elijah Parish swimming in 1:37.52.

CLASS 4A: Mark Kim, Eric Wu Christopher Xia and Jaden Kim had solid days in the prelims for Camas.

Mark Kim was the No. 3 qualifier in the 200 free (1:42.34) and No. 3 in the 500 free (4:42.51). Wu advanced to the finals also in two events. He was third in the 100 butterfly (50.84) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (1:54.69).

Xia advanced in the sixth spot in the 100 freestyle (47.95) and fifth spot in the 50 freestyle (21.84). Jaden Kim was the No. 2 qualifier in the 100 fly (50.73).

Camas qualified No. 1 in the 200 free relay (1:27.69) and third in the 400 free relay (3:13.53).

Battle Ground qualified eighth in the 200 free relay, and Union’s Val Tikhomirov advanced seventh in the 100 breaststroke (58.62).

CLASS 3A: Evergreen’s Ilia Zablotoviskii qualified fifth in the 100 backstroke (52.68).
