PORTLAND — After delaying its decision on a permanent general manager, TriMet’s governing board will appoint an interim leader this week.
The board will meet via teleconference Wednesday to name the agency’s general counsel, Shelley Devine, as its interim leader. Devine, who has worked in TriMet’s legal office since 2008, is a familiar face to the board and has served as the agency’s chief legal attorney since March 2014.
Her tenure as general manager could be short-lived. The board will meet again Feb. 28 to vote on its original finalist, current TriMet Chief Operating Officer Doug Kelsey.
The board was expected to vote on whether to appoint Kelsey on Jan. 31, but it delayed its decision after community groups and public officials expressed concerns about what they viewed as a secretive and time-constrained process.
TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane said in October that he planned to leave the agency. Wednesday will be his last day on the job.
