Orchards — Orchards Elementary School played host to Washington State University Extension’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education’s Harvest of the Month program. The program teamed with Chartwells at Evergreen Public Schools to give students a special lunch treat throughout the month. This month’s special ingredient was pears. About 540 students tasted local pears with sliced cheddar cheese and whole grain crackers. The pears came from a farm in Odell, Ore., and pears will be featured on the lunch menu throughout the month at all Evergreen elementary schools.
