1. Need a lift?

There’s something primal about picking up heavy objects. But there’s something fun (and less risky) about watching people pick up heavy objects, which is exactly what you can do from the safety of the bleachers at the CrossFit Fort Vancouver Championship from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 5, 6 and 7 at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. The competition includes same-gender pairs, as well as a “masters athletes” showdown that features competitors facing off in the 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54 and 55-plus age ranges. Competitions showcase swimming, squatting, pull-ups, box jumps, rope climbs, dead lifts and much more. Parking is $6, and tickets range from $10 to $15 daily, or $20 for all three days. 360-397-6180 or cfvchampionship.com

2. Get a clue

Who stole the missing cupcakes? Was it Colonel Mustard? Or was it Miss Scarlet? Or perhaps Professor Plum took them? Don’t sit around pondering this important mystery any longer, and head to Camas to solve the crime for “CLUE in Downtown Camas!” from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 5 on First Friday. Dress up as your favorite “Clue” character as you search for clues in the mystery of the missing cupcake. Each participant can receive a mini-cupcake courtesy of Cake Happy. Five special participants will win a “secret passage card,” which allows them to head straight to Cake Happy for a treat. As part of First Friday, which takes place in downtown Camas, you can shop at local businesses, check out opening art shows and take part in the winter crafts and Lego activities in Journey Church, 304 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas; free admission. downtowncamas.com/event/cluefirstfriday

3. Extend the holiday season

Christmas isn’t over yet. The Twelfth Night of Christmas, which is a musical celebration of the Epiphany with Windham Hill recording artist Cathy Bolton along with pianist Jim Fischer, extends holiday cheer into early 2018 when the concert begins at 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at First Presbyterian Church, 4300 Main St., Vancouver; free-will offerings accepted. Finger-style guitarist John Standefer will perform with Keith Collins on bass. 360-694-3363 or www.jimfischer.net/calendar.htm

4. Be crafty

Who said crafts are just for kids? It’s actually possible no one has said that exactly, but generally speaking, crafts are something associated with young folks. It doesn’t have to be that way with the Adult Craft-O-Rama from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 6 at Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas; free, 18 and older. This craft session’s focus is to make a one-of-a-kind wild bird using only basic materials and creativity. 360-834-4692 or www.cityofcamas.us/camaspubliclibrary

5. A musical collaboration

Maybe youth is wasted on the young, but musical talent is definitely not. At least that’s the case with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, which will perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 7 with PROJECT Trio, a three-person, high-energy chamber music ensemble from Brooklyn, N.Y., that mixes classical training with an eclectic set of musical styles. The MYS educates and provides performance opportunities for young Portland-area musicians. Tickets range from $20 to $35 for the performance at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 S.W. Broadway, Portland. 503-239-4566 or https://playmys.org/product/january-7-2018-concert/#select-your-price-tier
