Woodland rode its defense to a dominating 2A Greater St. Helens League win at home.

Palmer Dinehart had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Wyatt Harsh added 12 points. But the star for Woodland was its team defense.

“We used a full-court press most of the game, but mostly it was just our rotation and communication,” Woodland coach Andrew Johnson said. “Doc Rivers said it best. If you’re not talking, you’re not playing defense.”

Woodland (7-6, 2-3) held Ridgefield to five points in each of the first two quarters to take a 22-10 halftime lead. Ridgefield (5-6, 1-3) was outscored 16-7 in both the third and fourth quarters.

“It was a game we needed,” Johnson said. “The boys showed up tonight.”
