An unidentified man severely injured in a Jan. 3 shooting in the neighborhood of Ellsworth Springs remains hospitalized, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Detectives continue to investigate the shooting, in which two men apparently shot at and injured each other, and have been unable to interview the person who sustained the more-serious injury, police department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email.

The man was in serious condition over the weekend, Kapp said. He is expected to survive, she said.

Police are not releasing the man’s name at this time.

The shooting occurred sometime before 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night. That’s when officers and medics responded to the 10400 block of Southeast 10th Street on the report of a disturbance, police said.

Responders found two gunshot wound victims — the severely injured man and another man, 22-year-old Andrew C. Morris, who had been struck in the leg, police said.

Investigators determined the men “fired their weapons at each other at some point, resulting in both parties being shot.”
