WASHOUGAL — Washougal School District Superintendent Mike Stromme will leave the district after the school year, as he heads back to Vancouver Public Schools, where he spent 21 years before coming to Washougal.

Stromme, who took over as superintendent in Washougal in July 2015, is leaving to become the associate superintendent for administrative services. Stromme’s new position will be effective in July, and is subject to formal approval by Vancouver’s school board.

In his new job, Stromme will oversee divisions responsible for K-12 school operations, academic programs, career and technical education, instructional technology and special services. He will also provide leadership in completing school construction and renovation projects funded through bond proceeds and state grants.

In a statement, Stromme covered some of the highlights during his time leading Washougal, including the completion of more than $60 million of new capital facilities construction, the addition of two family resource centers and implementing an eight-year curriculum adoption plan.

“This is a difficult choice to make, as I enjoy the Washougal community and its unwavering support in the important work of educating students,” Stromme said in his statement. “I am continually impressed with the generosity, dedication and commitment the Washougal community proudly demonstrates in serving the educational needs of children. It is gratifying to work in a community that places a premium on the quality education programs it provides for all students.”
